Keefer Court Bakery & Café: A Tiny Space Brimming with Treats
When I’m feeling hungry and I need quick, affordable, and most importantly, delicious food, I immediately head to one of my favorite spots on the West Bank, Keefer Court Bakery & Cafe. The name may not invoke thoughts of tender meat filled buns, warm soups, or expertly decorated cakes, but Keefer Court is an impressive shop serving up Hong Kong style food and baked goods.
With its red and gold front, this humble looking shop may be small in size but packs quite a lot into a tiny space. Immediately upon walking in customers will see a bakery counter brimming with freshly baked golden buns, cakes, and cookies. During my most recent visit, I popped into the bakery and found three other customers already in line. With four of us standing in front of the bakery case, the tiny restaurant was already crowded, but that didn’t bother me. It gave me time to pick out what treats I was going to bring home with me (see: eat in my car). When I want something savory I always go for the meaty BBQ pork or slightly spicy curry beef buns. If I’m craving something sweet, and I’m always craving something sweet, I choose a tender roll cake or a shiny, golden custard bun. Items can be boxed up and taken to go, or if you order from their full menu of hot foods, you can dine on noodle soups, rice plates, and stir-fries in the cozy seating area in back.
Have a special occasion coming up? The bakery can also customize a cake for your next birthday, wedding or party. Staff is friendly and service is fast. And while the bakery accepts only cash or check there is an ATM conveniently located on site.
So the next time you’re feeling hungry and looking for something fast, filling, and delicious, stop into Keefer Court Bakery & Café.
