What makes the West Bank special?

Well, to start, it’s not just the fact that you can grab a bite to eat and see a show. (You can do that in most neighborhoods, in most cities.) No – The West Bank has a special flavor all its own. With over 50 restaurants, an overwhelming majority of which are small, diverse, and independently owned, odds are you’ll have a dinner experience you won’t match anywhere else. And from Mixed Blood to Theatre in the Round, West Bank venues are of historical and cultural importance. They also do this while making the world a better, more innovative place. Check out a few of the current goings-on on the West Bank this weekend and into 2015.

Southern Theater launches ARTshare

On Saturday the 17th the Southern Theater  launched their innovative ARTshare program. Described as “like Netflix, but for Theater” ARTshare promises members access to shows from 15 resident companies each year. Not only does ARTshare bring original programming back to the Southern, it also supports local theater in a whole new way. And at only $18 a month (often less than the price of an individual ticket) membership is a steal.

Cedar Cultural Center hosts DRONE NOT DRONES

We’re all familiar with Low’s “Drone Not Drones” controversy from Rock the Garden 2013, right? We’ll, you’ll be happy to know that their performance has spearheaded an annual event at the Cedar Cultural Center, a collaborative effort to raise awareness and raise funds for Doctors Without Borders.

This weekend, for the second installation of this event, over 50 acts will create a seamless 28 hour drone.

You can find a list of bands, tentative schedule and tickets here: thecedar.org/events/2015/01/30/drone-not-drones-live-28-hour-drone

Not a lot of nonprofits out there hosting fundraisers for other nonprofits! But that’s the West Bank for you – and The Cedar Cultural Center makes not just the West Bank a better place to be, but the world too.
