About the West Bank Business Association

The West Bank Business Association is 501c3 membership nonprofit. 

The WBBA exists to engage the business community in the responsible economic development of the West Bank district while preserving the unique character and heritage of the Cedar-Riverside area. WBBA is dedicated to preserving the neighborhood’s strengths while identifying and helping address the neighborhood’s changing needs bringing positive improvements to all, while serving as a resource for all of the business and commercial property owners on the West Bank.

Our team works diligently to support our thriving district—by nurturing our vibrant businesses, working as a community connector, creating opportunities, and facilitating events and activities on the West Bank. 

Job Title: Program Manager & Technical Assistance Provider

The program manager will coordinate both regular and annual programming of WBBA. Some programs are run by contractors and will need basic coordination. Other programs will require direct management by the Program Manager. Program Manager will also be directly involved, along with the Executive Director and other WBBA staff, in direct business services including Technical Assistance and Outreach. The Program Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and will work with both contractors and WBBA staff. 

Regular Programming

  • Along with other staff and individually, coordinate and conduct 1:1 business outreach every quarter. All WBBA staff assist with quarterly business outreach.

  • Educate businesses about and assist businesses with resources and opportunities such as facade grants, green cost share, adopt a trash can or recycling bin 

  • Establish and help staff office hours for business technical assistance 

  • Provide business technical assistance within your capacity/ skillset. Technical assistance can range from basic assistance like calling the city with questions, helping with forms & licenses, to helping with marketing, photography, graphic design, website design for small businesses. Every staff member at WBBA provides some technical assistance to our businesses within their existing skillset. There are also opportunities to develop skillsets you are interested in. WBBA is committed to helping our staff develop professionally in areas of interest to them.

  • As needed, assist with identifying technical assistance providers that can meet our businesses’ needs.

  • As needed and as interested, assist with running WBBA committees which include safety committee, arts committee, and other committees we establish as needed or in collaboration with other agencies. As a community, we fairly regularly establish taskforces to work together to address specific issues in the community.

Annual Programming 

In addition to our regular programming described above, WBBA offers a variety of programming that supports the vitality of our commercial corridor that may change from year to year although some programs are multi-year. Our programming ranges from conducting studies on retail offerings in the neighborhood, to sponsoring free art and music in a park we created off Cedar, to coordinating the installation of murals, helping make Open Streets/Cedarfest happen, and running youth internship programs addressing blight. The Program Manager may also help the Executive Director develop new programs, which will be an opportunity to bring Project Manager’s ideas for increasing district vitality into our programming work.

The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring that we meet grant deliverables and execute all our annual programming within the grant deadlines. The Program Manager will also be responsible for assigning WBBA staff roles on programs, as well as coordinating with contractors and other organizations, and running some programming themselves as needed and interested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree. 

Must have experience with program management and demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with others.

Preferred: A relationship with the West Bank neighborhood. Experience working with or owning/running a small business or current small business owner/artist/contractor/gig worker/grad student. Experience working with youth or college students can be helpful. Language skills and cultural knowledge of East African cultures are a plus, especially Somali or Oromo. 

Please highlight any special skills that may be useful for technical assistance to our small businesses. This can range from financial skills, general paperwork skills to photography, graphic design, merchandising, marketing, or other skills that help our district and small businesses succeed. 

Hours and Pay: 

Part time and very flexible with an average of 20 hours per week with a starting wage of $30/hr. Potential for increased responsibility and professional development, depending on interest and abilities.

More hours may be available depending on technical assistance skill and need. More hours are also likely to be available in the summer than the winter. Hours worked will be in our office with some remote work, hours will also be worked in the community and will be flexible depending on needs for business outreach and engagement efforts. Some evening or weekend hours may be required, depending on events.
